Love God

God is not only worthy of our love but He expects us to love Him deeply and intimately. In Matthew 22:37-38 we read these words 37   Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38  This is the first and great commandment. We are not called to love God with a shallow or cursory type of love. We are to love God with every fiber of our being. There should be nothing else in our life that even comes close to garnering the type or amount of love we have and show to our God.

To love with your heart is to have that attraction and infatuation you feel with a new acquaintance. What some call natural chemistry. An instant attraction. This is the starting place of any lasting relationship. When God saves us by His grace, it is the beginning of something much much bigger than we can imagine. This is the kernel that grows into a deep abiding loving relationship with our creator and sustainer. This is the most basic layer of love. This is the layer in which we decide if a deeper level of love and intimacy is worth pursuing. We ask ourselves “is this relationship worth my investment”?

Loving with your soul is quite literally loving with your “breath”! To understand this concept, you must realize how connected our breathing is with our survival. Our very life depends upon our breathing! This is the level of our soul and this is the level in which we are to love God. Everything spiritual depends on this level of love shown to God. We are completely and utterly dependent upon Him for our life and purpose. This is the deepest level of worship; to love God with our very breath! This love is manifested by a life of devotion to God. Devoted to whatever He may ask of us. No questions asked; complete devotion to His will and purpose for our lives. We must live minute by minute in obedience and humility to Him; letting God have complete control over my choices, attitudes and desires until they match His.

To love with the mind entails having a renewed mind. Our minds are renewed at the moment of salvation. We are no longer have reprobate minds because we are no longer lost. The Apostle Paul says that we are new creatures in Christ in 2 Corinthians 5:17. Part of being new creatures is that we have new minds that we can use to think and meditate upon the things of Christ. Loving God with our mind is not a pursuit of academic knowledge about God. But, rather, allowing our minds to be filled with the awesomeness of the One who created us and saved us by His grace. We are now able to make decisions based upon the Bible. Satan and the world system wants to win the fight over our mind. What you set your mind upon is soon followed by your heart and soul. This is the window that the enemy wants to exploit. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 12:2 to not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our mind that we may know what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. I challenge you today to set your mind upon God and be transformed into what He created you to be.

God is calling people to Himself today. Have you heeded His call. Be encouraged today by God’s word. Let it permeate every space in your mind. Choose today to love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul. Be determined today to fall in love with God; love Him deeply with your very soul, and devote your mind and being to His service. The only remedy for the pain, chaos, and turmoil of this world is to totally devote yourself to God, who is loving and merciful. I hope you will make God the number one priority in your life beginning today.

Held in His hand;
