Jesus Christ is Lord

Few statements cause such a visceral response as this one. On one hand you have folks like me who believe with their whole heart that nothing could be more true. But there are also those who dismiss this statement completely. These folks say that belief in Jesus is for shallow minded simpletons. How can one statement be so polarizing? Trying to cover all of the arguments for and against belief in Jesus is not my aim here, that would take a lifetime to cover adequately. My goal is simply to state the reasons I believe Jesus Christ is Lord.

The Bible tells us that God so loved the world that He sent His only Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. John 3:16-17. Jesus lived a sinless life so that He could be the only sacrifice worthy to pay the debt I owed to God for my sins. Jesus died by crucifixion on the cross and shed His blood. God’s word teaches that there must be a shedding of blood for redemption; this is what Jesus sacrifice accomplished for me and sinners like me. But that isn’t the reason He is Lord. He is Lord because He resurrected from death. He had complete control over death! He was raised from the dead and ascended to Heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. Lord signifies that Jesus is divine; He is God.

As such, Jesus reigns over everything; whether in Heaven or on earth. There is no end to His reign; He will reign over all things for eternity. He holds all authority. He is the sovereign Lord. No one is free from His rule, not even those who place no faith in Him. One day every person who has ever lived will stand before Him in judgement. Only those who have accepted Him as Lord and Savior will pass through this judgement and live in Heaven. Those who don’t place faith in Jesus will be cast into outer darkness where there will be eternal torment. 2 Peter 3:9 tells us that God would have that none perish but that all would come to repentance.

Repentance is recognizing your sin and turning from it and turning to Christ. You may be saying, I live a good life, I’m not a bad person. That may be true but the word of God says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. To be saved you must repent and accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, Romans 3:23.

I believe in the total sovereignty of God. And because of His sovereignty, I also believe in divine appointments. Nothing happens by accident or chance. You are reading this right now because of His ruling hand. Don’t ignore those daily encounters with the divine as coincidence. God directs the footsteps of men and He orchestrates the events of life as He pleases. Pay attention and be sensitive to His leadership in your life.

Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ for salvation. I encourage you to make the decision today that will change your tomorrow for ever. Let Him have total control over your life and learn to follow His loving guidance. I promise it will be the best decision you ever make. And like me; you can affirm that Jesus Christ is Lord. He is still calling people out of the world and to a relationship with Himself. No other relationship is a meaningful as one with the God of the universe who seeks ordinary people like me and you to walk with Him.

Jesus is King of kings, Lord of lords, God the Son, and Savior of souls. Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God! We can affirm with Thomas in John 20:28 that Jesus is my Lord and my God!

Until we stand face to face with Jesus Christ who is Lord of all;
