Uneasy Times

Seems that every day the headlines become more grim than the day before. Just yesterday, here in Florida, our Governor issued a stay at home order in response to the growing concern for the Corona virus spreading through our state. Other states have had similar orders issued by their leaders. It is easy to get caught up in the hysteria and become fearful and anxious. As believers, God has called us to be a light in the darkness.Jesus said in Matthew 5:14 that we are the light of the world and we are not to hide that light.

There are so many opinions swirling around concerning what the Church should be doing at this time. Should we have corporate worship services in our buildings and jeopardize the health and well being of one another? Should we allow the government to infringe on our right to gather for worship? Should we follow the recommendations or stand in defiance? And there are many other questions in the minds of folks.

I, nor my fellow pastors, have ever led a church through a world wide pandemic. So, these questions are being faced and answered in real time. There are differing opinions on the way we answer these questions. What I will say, is, that each Pastor must pray and seek God for direction. The way I navigate this situation may be very different than another Pastor. But, I will only answer for the way I lead and protect my congregation. I believe that we must seek wise counsel as we make decisions that have the potential to put us at odds with governing authorities and possibly risk the health of our neighbors.

I believe that as Christians, we must allow the Holy Spirit guide us. We must show the world that Churches support one another, even when we disagree with one another. The world is looking to Christians and the way we face these times to see if we practice what we say we believe. And that is that God Almighty is sovereign and in full control. 2 Timothy 1:7 says “For God has not give us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind”!

Let us show the world that spirit; and that love; and that mind as we face these uneasy times.

God bless,

Pastor Kavin
